Free Pattern: Fun and Easy Flower Embellishments

 While working on an extra-special pattern for everyone, I've been experimenting with ways to make 3-dimensional flowers. Most patterns are complicated or require sewing layers together. These are a few quick, simple patterns which can be used as embellishments, jewelry, or even attach to a gift for a fun (and possibly recycled) bow.
  Use any size hook, any material you may want. Experiment and have fun! See what you could change to make your very own pattern. Make one out of crochet thread and attach to a headband, make some from plarn and attach to earring findings. Make a matching necklace. How about some made of super-fluffy-chunky yarn attached to a pair of sandals for a cute flair?
  Use your imagination, use recycled materials, use your yarn stash. Get creative with multi-media crafting: Use paint, glitter glue, beads.
 I would love to paint them with glow in the dark paint and hang in a window, or outside. I'm stressing over finishing the new pattern, so let's do something fun and easy for a short (but deserved) break.

Skill Level:
Easy

Materials:

Crochet hook, any size. 
Crochet material, any type.
   examples: Yarn, plarn, crochet thread, twine, newspaper yarn, fabric scrap yarn, fabric ribbon, gift-wrap ribbon, lanyard, jewelry wire.
Tapestry needle or smaller hook for weaving in ends
Whatever is needed to attach your embellishment
  examples: Thread, jewelry findings, hot glue gun, fabric glue, craft glue

Gauge:
Not important. Relative sizes are given for each design. If you want a smaller flower, use a smaller hook. Use a larger size hook if you wish for a larger flower.

Tips:

  Keep in mind, the thicker the material, the more space it will use. If flowers come out too ruffled, change to a larger hook size.
  The opposite will happen if your hook is too big. The chains being worked into a previous row are designed to pull slightly for a 3-dimensional effect. If pattern pulls too tightly to work, change to a smaller hook.
  Also, these patterns are simple. Add or subtract where needed...Want an eight-petal flower? Repeat 7 times instead of the 5 used for a 6-petal blossom. Already worked the pattern and don't feel like "frogging" it? Add an extra chain. Nobody will tell.

Patterns:

Flower 1: (made with plarn 3/4" thickness)

 This fun, simple pattern makes a loopy, twisty daisy-like blossom. Super easy for advanced skills; Beginners may need stitch markers.

 Gauge: Flower measures slightly less than 2" (about 5 cm) across
             Crochet hook size G/6 (4.25mm) used

Ch 6. Join with a sl st to beg ch. 

Sl st into back loop of same st. Ch 6, sl st into front loop of same st.

*Sl st into back loop of next st. Ch 6, sl st into front loop of same st.* Repeat from * to * 4 more times. Finish with a sl st in beg sl st. Bind off, weave in ends.

Flower 2: (made with plarn 1/2" thickness)

 This pattern is slightly more difficult, but still very simple. A much more delicate flower is the result.
 Gauge: Flower measures a bit more than 2" (about 5 cm) across
             Crochet hook size F/5 (3.75mm) used

Ch 6, join with a sl st to beg ch.

Round 1:

Sl st into ch-6 sp. *Ch 3, sl st into ch-6 sp.* Repeat from * to * 5 more times. Join with a sl st to beg sl st.

Round 2:
*Sl st into next ch-3 sp. Ch 4, sl st into same sp.* Repeat from * to * 5 more times. Join with a sl st to beg sl st.

Round 3:
*Sl st into next ch-4 sp. Ch 2. Sl st back into same sp. Ch 4. Keeping yarn behind hook, sl st around foundation ch (placement: under ch-3 sp and between sl sts), ch 4, sl st back into ch-4 sp. Ch 2, sl st into same sp.* Repeat from * to * 5 more times.  Join with a sl st to beg sl st. bind off, weave in ends.

Flower 3: ( made with jute twine)

 This is a perfect example of the range of results you can get depending on your hook size and material.
 Gauge: Flower measures 4 1/2" (about 11 1/2 cm) across
             Crochet hook size J/10 (6.00mm) used

Ch 6, join with a sl st to beg ch.

Round 1:
Sl st into ch-6 sp. *Ch 6, sl st into ch-6 sp.* Repeat from * to * 5 more times.

Round 2:
*Sl st into next ch-6 sp. (Ch 3, sl st into ch-6 sp) 3 times.*  Repeat from * to * 5 more times. Join with a sl st to beg sl st.

Round 3:
*Ch 5, sl st to second ch- 3 sp (middle ch-3 of "petal"). Ch 4, sl st around foundation ch, between sl sts. Ch 4, sl st back into same ch-3 sp. Ch 5, sl st into beg sl st of next "petal".* Repeat from * to * 5 more times. (Bind off weave in ends) for flower 3. Continue for flower 4.

Flower 4: (made with baby boucle`)

Flower measures 4 3/4 " (about 12 cm) across
Round 4:
*Sl st into next ch-5 sp, ch 2. (Sl st, ch 2) in same sp 2 more times. Ch 1, (sl st, ch 2) 3 times in next ch-5 sp.* Repeat from * to * 5 more times. Join with a sl st to beg sl st. Bind off, weave in ends. Leaving extra yarn, you may weave the tail through the vertical ch-4 sps and pull it tight. This creates a different look to the flower.

 Make one of each to experiment. You can even try attaching different ones together for an endless combination of bouquets.
