The Troll

To anyone who reads the description of my patterns, you may notice quite a few mentions of a troll. I decided it was time The Troll got a little space of his/her own.

To anyone who thinks I'm nuts, maybe I am, but probably not. Just so you understand, "The Troll" is just a comical way to explain an unexplained problem I seem to have.
Things disappear at my house. That's the basic problem. I'm not a disorganized person, I can usually tell someone exactly where something is (or where it should be), and even other people lose items when they visit.

It became insanity before it became a joke. I would just know where something was, but it wouldn't be there. It became an almost weekly event. I started having other people search for things with me...together we would go through a drawer, box, or cabinet, and said item wouldn't be there.

These items are never anything expensive, but its usually something shiny, or food of some sort. I started remembering fairy tails and legends about "little people" of all sorts.

Then one day, half joking, I said "I swear there's a troll living here and he steals my stuff." I yelled out "Okay Troll, you had your fun...Now can I please have my stuff back?"......

My stuff started reappearing. Not only did it come back, but it always comes back in the place it went missing from. The very same place other people also looked, and couldn't find the item.
So call me crazy, call it a troll, call it whatever you think it is; Its just a fact that things disappear with no explanation around here.

Because the missing items are often something I need to complete a pattern, I had an idea that perhaps the "troll" would like to be a part of Crochet is the Way...Something more than just a mention in a post now and then.

Feel free to share your own "troll" stories or leave a happy message for mine; Just know: Whoever makes fun of the "troll" always gets their things taken too.

    1. Lol, no, mine's still here causing trouble! Some suggest that this troll's name is "disorganization". But then, explain how the stuff shows up where we already looked; right? I think he could also be related to the sock monster that lives in the dryer, so look out!

  2. I know about these trolls too. They live in my apartment. My fiance's work shirts would go missing for a week then be found in my clothes not his. I looked there so many times during the week. And don't think when I washed them that's how they got there. I don't wash his work clothes with mine

    1. I have a similar problem with my own clothes... Maybe "they" like the color of your fiance's shirts! If only they could do some mending before they return the items :)

    2. My husband is Norwegian where Trolls are from. When things disappear from now on, I will just blame it on him!

    3. LOL :) Mary, my husband isn't Norwegian, but I like your idea anyway.

  3. I too suffer from this malady, though my trolls seem to have taken on a physical form. A fuzzy physical form. Fuzzy and loud physical forms. With claws. Honestly though, we have finally figured out that our cats move things on us and eventually bring them back (unless they ate it) just for the joy of watching me lose my mind. This is what I get for naming them Loki and Sigyn hahahaha

    1. LOL :) We have a handful of stray cats that roam our acres, and I named one Puck. He's a nasty little creature. Perhaps we should think twice before we name pets.
My two inside cats can be blamed for some things, but I don't think they've learned how to open the kitchen drawers... Yet.
      Thanks for sharing your story!

    1. Don't worry about the comments, Jessica! I can (and did) clean that up on my end. I'm guessing maybe you're on a mobile device? The comment always goes through but it doesn't show YOU that it did.
Thanks for sharing your Troll story! Now, will you tell me how you get her to keep things in order instead of disarray? Plain ol' respect doesn't work on mine ;)

  5. I always call mine little gremlins. They constantly hide my stuff and usually give it back in a couple of weeks. However, they have decided to keep photos I printed for over 2 months now. And they were intended to be a gift. I've searched the house high and low a hundred times now and no sign of the photos.

    1. Oh no! I don't know if asking nicely works on gremlins too, but it might be worth a try. ;) Or perhaps an offering? They might be jealous that someone else is getting a gift! There's something in those tales about "little people" liking sweets.
